Well, our so called promising vocalist has abruptly thrown in the towel after only two practices. Despite writing strong vocals to one song, he decided he couldn’t write to our music due to the odd time and experimental elements, even suggested we simplify things and make it more vocal friendly. Fair enough I guess but doing that would defeat the purpose of what we are about, so he obviously missed the point. Mothra thrives on experimentation and progressive songwritng. Pushing new ideas and creating challenging yet natural music for us and whoever wants to listen is what we are about. A shame because we felt he had the dynamics as a singer we were looking for. Next please.

2011 underway for Mothra (Auckland Progressive rock/metal)
It was good to slam out the set again the other night and get 2011 underway. A very limited first run of T shirts will be available very soon. We also have a very promising vocalist coming to practice this week, the guy has some serious chops, so hopefully it works out. We’ve trialed alot of singers over the last 2 years, this guy could be our man. Click tracks and E.P preparation is coming along slowly but surely, but with the vocal potential now on the cards things might take on a whole new form.
More shows will be announced shortly.
Peace.

Mothra E.P progress (Auckland progressive rock/metal)
We are making good headway on the click tracks for the up coming E.P.
The tempos need to be spot on so this man is ultra-comfortable when he lays his chops down.

2010 : Auckland progressive metal, a productive year
It’s been a productive year for Mothra in 2010. We have played a whole heap of shows around Auckland, refined our music to a whole new level, and are thoroughly looking foward to
our upcoming E.P release. We have trialed a number of vocalists but no one has quite fit what we are looking for in terms of range and dynamics etc, but that’s ok. We enjoy playing our songs as they are and alot of people have said they don’t want to hear vocals over them. It is by no means easy music to write to, but finding the right vocalist for atleast some of the material is always on the cards. The E.P will be instrumental, but who knows maybe we will have some vocals further down the track. Go to the live footage page to check some tracks out if you haven’t already. Tee shirts and a new batch of stickers will be ready before christmas. Here is a new track from Hugh’s sideproject Scapeghost that may cross over into the Mothra live performance at some stage. Recording
We are preparing to record our debut E.P. From a pool of 20 songs written and rehearsed over the last 2 years we will probably choose 5. So a full length is also more or less written. At this stage we are getting the click track tempos sorted. Drum recording will commence mid Jan 2011 most likely at York St Studios Auckland.
